Southeast Georgia is preparing for a stormy Mother’s Day weekend, as a series of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are set to impact the region.

The National Weather Service warns that an upper-level trough from Canada down to the ArkLaTex region is channeling moist air, setting the stage for widespread storms beginning Friday and lasting through the weekend.

Friday’s forecast calls for highs in the low to mid-80s, with gusty winds and the possibility of hail. Parts of Middle and East Georgia are under a Marginal Risk for severe weather.

Rainfall will intensify on Sunday and Monday, with totals possibly reaching 3 to 5 inches or more. Flash flooding is a significant concern, especially in low-lying or poorly drained areas.

Savannah stands to benefit from much-needed rainfall, but flooding risk will remain elevated. Residents should monitor local forecasts, avoid flooded roads, and have emergency plans ready.

Conditions should improve by midweek, bringing drier, sunnier weather by Wednesday.
